Reading your Personal Chi – Part One

Reading your Personal Chi –

Pt. One

Just as our homes carry energy (chi), so do our bodies. And, your home can impact your chi more than you’d imagine.

If you’ve been with me for a while, you’ve heard me say, “Just as our homes can cause stress and overwhelm, they can also bring us joy, peace, and restoration.”

From my experience working in homes and even learning to work with my own home, I’ve repeatedly seen this statement ring true. The top complaints I hear from clients when they’re ready to book with me are, “My home is not functioning how I’d like it to,” or “I do not feel like my home represents who I am,” or “No matter what I do I can’t seem to keep up with the tasks at home,” or “My family isn’t honoring the standards I want for my home.”

What I’m hearing here is, stress, overwhelm, frustration, lack of support, feeling uninspired, longing, etc. Sure, we can come in and organize your space, design it beautifully, and even do a space clearing, but without implementing the fundamentals of Feng Shui you may fall back into the same cycles again.

Feng Shui is very much the material adjustments mentioned above, but on a deeper level, it is a mindfulness practice – teaching you how to be intentional about your space and uncovering areas of your life that you didn’t even know you were avoiding. It’s a way of looking at the physical realm to identify areas in the energetic realm that may need support. It is a mirror, reflecting back to you the things you need to work on on a personal energetic level.

That brings me to personal Chi… We are all made up of energy, whether you want to explore this from a scientific perspective, like the examples below, or from a spiritual perspective using the Chakra system. Either way, your body is energy, meaning it can also be affected by energy.

Energetic Body from a Scientific Perspective

  1. Bioelectricity: Our bodies produce electrical signals to carry out various functions. Neurons, for example, communicate via electrical impulses, which are essential for everything from muscle contractions to brain functions.
  2. Electromagnetic Fields: The human body generates electromagnetic fields. The heart produces a powerful electromagnetic field that can be measured by devices like an ECG. Similarly, brain activity generates detectable electromagnetic waves (brain waves).
  3. Energy Metabolism: At a cellular level, energy is produced through biochemical processes. Mitochondria in our cells convert nutrients into ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy currency of the cell, through cellular respiration.
  4. Biophotons: Cells in the body emit low levels of light, known as biophotons. This phenomenon suggests that cells might communicate via light, adding another layer to the concept of the body as an energetic entity.

Chakra System

The chakra system is a part of ancient Indian spiritual traditions, particularly in Hinduism and Buddhism. Chakras are often depicted as being located along the spine, which coincides with the central nervous system. The major chakras correspond to nerve plexuses and endocrine glands in the body.

Each of the seven main energy centers along the spine also corresponds to specific physical, emotional, and spiritual functions.

  1. Root Chakra (Muladhara): Located at the base of the spine, it is associated with survival, stability, and basic needs. Its color is red, and it governs the adrenal glands.
  2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): Situated just below the navel, it relates to creativity, sexuality, and pleasure. Its color is orange, and it influences the reproductive organs.
  3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Located in the upper abdomen, it governs personal power, self-esteem, and confidence. Its color is yellow, and it affects the digestive system.
  4. Heart Chakra (Anahata): Found in the center of the chest, it is linked to love, compassion, and relationships. Its color is green, and it is connected to the heart and lungs.
  5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Located at the throat, it is associated with communication, expression, and truth. Its color is blue, and it governs the thyroid and vocal cords.
  6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Situated between the eyebrows, it is related to intuition, insight, and wisdom. Its color is indigo, and it influences the pituitary gland and endocrine system.
  7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): Located at the top of the head, it is linked to spiritual connection and enlightenment. Its color is violet or white, and it affects the pineal gland and overall consciousness.

Okay, now back to Feng Shui… As evident, our bodies are made up of energy (scientific or spiritual). And, like I said at the beginning of this post, if our homes can impact our energetic body through feelings like stress, they can also impact us positively.

If you want to identify what your home might be telling you about your energetic body, visit my foundational posts about Feng Shui and the Bagua. Once you’ve laid your Bagua map, find the corresponding area in your home that you are ignoring. Does this one junk room happen to fall into the Abundance and Finances Gua of the Bagua map? Is it a reflection of how you are tending to your financial well-being?

Or perhaps your home is lacking in a certain color like hues of red, which represent being seen/reputation/fire energy in the Feng Shui Bagua. This may reflect on a personal level something related to you being recognized at work or in your community.

The list of examples can really continue on. It’s amazing how the synchronicities present themselves so clearly when you start to dig in. All of which are a representation – a mirror – of YOU and your energetic body. In Part Two I’ll be sharing more about your energetic makeup from an astrological perspective to bring this all full circle.
